Welcome to Glenalco Pet Services History page
My background is in healthcare. I qualified as a general nurse then after further training as a psychiatric nurse. Prior to setting up the business I was a general manager in a care home. I started the business in 2007 due to my love of animals and encouragement of friends.
I have always had dogs and had an interest in animal psychology. I have learned a lot about dog behaviour in dealing with dogs I have rescued who have had their own behaviour issues, learning from others and lots of reading. I am a member of the Kennel Club Accreditation Scheme for instructors in dog training and canine behaviour.
My husband Alan helps out with walking the dogs when he is not at work as a chef. We have six dogs of our own. Connie is 11 and is our oldest although still a pup at heart; Jaffa will soon be nine he has appeared on Blue Peter after wining the title of most handsome crossbreed. Rhu is seven and competes in competition agility. She had had two litters of pups and we keep in touch with owners and pups often. We kept Caoilte who is now three from the first litter. She also does competition agility. Sweep is also three and was rescued from a farm at nine months not even knowing his own name. I have taught him some agility, but firstly I taught him how to play. Logan is our youngest at 18 months and was from Rhu’s last and final litter. He is showing great promise as an agility dog but has yet to find the brakes. We have our own secure field to train and play in, many of our customers have benefited from this facility. Dogs very quickly get used to the horses who are very nosey.
I have been involved with rescue dogs for several years. Prior to doing my own obedience classes I was privileged to take puppy classes and help teach general obedience under the supervision of a club. I have competed in dog agility for around fifteen years and love the buzz of that special 1-1 relationship which happens through understanding and communicating with one another.
I have been doing Reiki since 2002. Reiki means universal life energy. Energy is channelled to the animal or person via the practitioners non-intrusive placing of hands. It is known to treat a variety of symptoms e.g. arthritis, stress depression, sports injury in both animal and human alike.
